(Scottsdale, Arizona): State Treasurer Kimberly Yee today released a statement condemning Democrat Martín Quezada for his decision to sponsor an anti-Israel movie viewing at the State Capitol using taxpayer funds:

“It has come to my attention that my Democratic opponent for Treasurer - Martín Quezada - is hosting a screening today of an anti-Israel propaganda film in the state Capitol using taxpayer dollars.

“I find this extremely troubling — and apparently so do his Democratic colleagues. Four of them sent a letter this week warning Legislators of this film, and that attendance is ‘likely to be documented by anti-Israel and antisemitic groups.’

“This is the latest demonstration that Sen. Quezada has aligned himself with the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Hate Movement (BDS). This is a national campaign aimed at harming Israel and its trade partners.

"80 years ago, Arizona hosted internment camps for Japanese-American citizens on the basis of their national origin. As a person of Asian descent, I believe we must ensure discrimination on the basis of national origin is never again tolerated.

“As a former legislator, I helped pass Arizona’s law regulating against state financial engagement with parties who participate in BDS activity, including boycotting Israel. As your State Treasurer, I’ve upheld this law.

“We cannot trust Martín Quezada. Even his own Democratic colleagues don’t trust him. This Treasurer's race is very important. We must push back on this kind of hate and bigotry.

“Bottom line: This film should NOT be shown in the state Capitol with taxpayer resources. And we CANNOT have Martín Quezada in charge of our state’s finances.”
